Wilderness Wheels takes you to the city of Ouarzazate, located half way between the peaks of the Alt Atles and the beginning of the Sahara desert itself. The city is the center of the Moroccan film industry and the Moroccan Tourism Office actively promotes it as a destination for adventurous tourists.

The fascination of Europeans with the Sahara desert began suddenly during the colonial era. Faced with this, one cannot underestimate its untamed landscape and harsh climate, but its modern travel and communication standards and medical coverage make the region a viable and challenging destination for adventurers.

Morocco has a moderate climate on the coast, both in winter and in the mountains, and extremely hot in the desert and summer. The best time to visit the Alt Atles is from April to October and the desert from November to March.

Morocco is an Islamic country, so it is recommended to dress conservatively (pants) in cities and towns. Cal requires permission to photograph people; Homes and children may demand money, but gifts are often denied. A tip is expected, usually around 5 dirhams.
